Those travelling to the Eternal City shortly should prepare for disruptions and renovations. Many sites in Rome are being renewed for the upcoming Jubilee Year 2025. One such site is the renowned Baroque Trevi Fountain, often regarded as the most beautiful in the world. Taking a photo there is an essential part of a trip to Italy, though this is now more challenging.
Video becomes an online hit
A tourist, known on social media as Merrsmith, posted a video on her TikTok profile showing shocking scenes occurring at the fountain.
The video shows a man who ran around the dry fountain pool and climbed one of the historic sculptures.
The young man attempted to flee after squeezing through the fence and exiting the fountain's pool. However, he was unsuccessful and was apprehended by police. Tourists in the area witnessed the entire episode. The video shared by one of them on TikTok has already garnered over 131,000 views.
Tourists overdo it
It seems this was not the first incident requiring police intervention. During last summer's holiday, one tourist entered the fountain to fill her bottle with water. In addition, last year, during the festive season, another woman entered the water for a bath. Due to these recurring incidents, police officers regularly patrol the vicinity of the fountain.
