Let's be honest: the bathroom doesn't always smell pleasant. This is caused by bacteria that settle on the toilet, the drain, the rug, and the towels. In contact with moisture, they begin to multiply, causing an unpleasant odour to fill the room.

How to get rid of it? Start by thoroughly cleaning the bathroom. Use bicarbonate of soda, which disinfects surfaces and neutralizes unpleasant odours. Add it to water and wipe down the tiles, ceramics, and fixtures. Don't forget to clean the drains thoroughly. Pour a package of bicarbonate of soda into them, then half a cup of hot vinegar. The mixture will start fizzing—this is entirely natural. Leave it for fifteen minutes, then pour cold water down the drain.

Also, remember to wash the towels. Before putting them in the washer, soak them in hot water with two packages of bicarbonate soda, then throw them in the washer. Replace fabric softener with vinegar or a solution of water and citric acid. Bicarbonate of soda will eliminate the odour, and vinegar will disinfect and soften the fabric.

Removing unpleasant odours is already half the battle. After thoroughly cleaning the bathroom, it's time to prepare a homemade air freshener. You don't need any specialized products or tools. Just take a spare toilet paper from its packaging and spray the inside with your favourite perfume. After spraying, place it on a shelf or hanger; a pleasant aroma will fill the entire bathroom.

If you like natural scents, replace the perfume with essential oils. You can buy them at any pharmacy for no more than 3 pounds. You can mix the oils to create your favourite fragrance combinations.
