The International Criminal Court accused Shoigu and Gerasimov of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity, bearing the characteristics of "inhuman acts," reported the Associated Press.

As announced in a statement by the International Criminal Court in The Hague, the arrest warrants for the former Russian Defence Minister and the Chief of General Staff were issued "in the context of the situation in Ukraine for alleged international crimes committed from at least 10 October 2022 until at least 9 March 2023."
