The Swedish prosecutor decided to discontinue the investigation against Kylian Mbappe, the French footballer, in connection with allegations of rape and sexual assault. The incident was reportedly said to have occurred during his visit to Stockholm in October.
Marina Chirakova, the prosecutor leading the case, stated that "the evidence is not sufficient to proceed and the investigation is therefore closed." This information was provided by AFP.
In October, Swedish media reported that Mbappe's name surfaced in a rape investigation. The 25-year-old footballer was visiting Stockholm at a time when he was not playing for Real Madrid or the French national team.
Mbappe's reaction
Kylian Mbappe, in an interview with the French station Canal Plus, expressed his surprise at the situation. "I was surprised. I am still surprised, in fact. These are things that come up unexpectedly," said the footballer. He also added: "I didn’t receive anything, not even a summons. I read the same as everyone else. The Swedish government has said nothing. I’m not worried... It’s just a misunderstanding."
