Super Bowl reveals "Twisters": A high-budget sequel to the 1996 hit 'Twister'

"Twister", directed by Jan De Bont, was the runner-up in terms of success in 1996, raking in nearly £372 million globally. It was a contender for an Oscar in two sectors: top-notch special effects and sound. However, it received substantial criticism from the media, ultimately winning a Golden Raspberry in the category of the worst film to make over £747 million.

Word of a sequel to "Twister" spread not long after its premiere, once the box office earnings for the opening weekend were in. But, as the 90s drew to a close, there was a deluge of disaster films using digital special effects, causing the project to be put on hold. Consequently, nearly three decades have passed.

The extreme weather events that have become increasingly prevalent in recent years have made subjects tied to the devastating powers of nature particularly relevant today. Thus, audiences can be alerted to looming dangers while also generating revenue.

"Twisters" is expected to be among the most high-priced films of the year, with an estimated budget of £149 million. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell, who have been thrust into the spotlight following their dramatic success in "Top Gun: Maverick", will headline this big-money production. Powell will soon grace Polish screens in the Valentine's Day previews of the romantic comedy "Just Not You" (a major global hit) and Richard Linklater's "Hit Man". Glen Powell may well be the name on everyone’s lips this year.

"Twisters" is set to premiere on 17th July. Powell will take on the role of a charismatic social media sensation who shares his adventures of tracking perilous and spectacular weather phenomena.
