Kansas City Chiefs defend Super Bowl title as pitch invaders steal the limelight
In this year's championship, the San Francisco 49ers squared off against the Kansas City Chiefs, who managed to protect their title after an overtime bout. Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, with a capacity of around 65,000 fans, was the venue of choice for the match. However, two fans couldn't contain their excitement and invaded the pitch at one point.
The two young men, shirtless, ducked and weaved to avoid capture by service personnel and security. However, they were eventually tackled and brought down.
While their antics didn't make it to the televised broadcast, their mission was accomplished as images and videos of the fans trended across social media platforms. Text written across their chests and backs – some of which are blurred – are distinguishable as hashtags and Instagram handles.
The men's identities are currently unknown, as is the nature of the charges they might face for their field invasion. That said, videos have surfaced online showing them being escorted out of the stadium in handcuffs.
