Colin Farrell's career resurgence: From "In Bruges" to "The Penguin"
In recent years, Colin Farrell has not enjoyed favourable press. His career seemed to have stalled, and the actor would only be "cashing in." However, returning to European productions was a blessing for the Irishman. His career is now thriving again. In September, we will see him in the series "The Penguin," whose new trailer has just appeared online.

"Phone Booth," "Hart's War," "Minority Report," "S.W.A.T.," "Daredevil," "The Recruit," "Miami Vice," "In Bruges," and "The New World" are movies (mostly Hollywood productions) from 20 years ago in which Dublin-born Colin Farrell shone. However, things got significantly worse later on. Interesting roles and films appeared sporadically. Farrell lost his status as a good actor and became merely a Hollywood star.
The Irishman, however, turned out to be an ambitious person. Without giving up his Hollywood career, he began appearing in European productions. Re-establishing his collaboration with English director Martin McDonagh was an excellent decision. Thanks to him, Colin Farrell received his first Golden Globe for "In Bruges," and thanks to him, he also received his second award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. For his role in "The Banshees of Inisherin" (2023), he was even awarded his first Oscar nomination and... a Razzie Award in the Redeemer Award category.
Next year, Farrell might win his third Golden Globe, this time for his role in the series The Penguin. Test screenings of the Warner Bros. Discovery platform's production reportedly went excellently. The new streaming platform Max hopes it will be its biggest hit this year. The premiere of the eight-episode miniseries is scheduled for September.
"The Penguin" is a direct continuation of the 2022 hit "The Batman" (starring Robert Pattinson). The series' action begins a week after the events depicted in the theatrical film. We will see how one of Batman's most famous adversaries (Oswald Cobblepot, commonly known as the Penguin) became the kingpin of Gotham City's underworld.
It is worth remembering that Burgess Meredith previously played the role of the Penguin in the 1960s TV series (who was later Oscar-nominated as Rocky Balboa's trainer), Danny DeVito in Tim Burton's cult classic 1992 production, and Robin Lord Taylor in the 2014 series "Gotham."
