Spanish royals pelted with mud by flood victims; recording captures incident
In Valencia, where the impact of the floods has been severely felt, the mood is understandably sombre. "The Telegraph" reports that the Spanish royals, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, received an exceptionally cold reception upon their arrival. It was reported that the King of Spain was showered with mud and insults by angry flood victims.
The report indicates that stones and even a glass jar were also thrown. The entire incident was captured on video, showing the crowd hurling mud and various objects at the king, while security personnel tried to protect him with umbrellas. The crowd’s anger was said to be due to the perceived delayed response of the authorities to the disaster and its tragic consequences.
At some point, the situation escalated to such a degree that authorities had to intervene, adding to the already tense atmosphere. The tension was not limited to the king; Queen Letizia also appeared visibly distressed, although she steadfastly continued to engage with those affected by the disaster.
