Spanish players and clubs were prominent at this year's Ballon d'Or ceremony. In the men's category, the Ballon d'Or was awarded to Rodri, the Spanish midfielder for Manchester City. Real Madrid players secured second and third place: Brazilian Vinicius Junior and Englishman Jude Bellingham. Fourth place went to another Spaniard, Dani Carvajal, representing "Los Blancos."
In the women's category, FC Barcelona players claimed the entire podium. Spanish Aitana Bonmatí was the winner, followed by Norwegian Caroline Graham Hansen in second place and another Spanish player, Salma Paralluelo, in third. Additionally, Jennifer Hermoso was honoured with the Socrates Award for social commitment, and FC Barcelona was recognised as the best women's club.
Spanish clubs excelled not only in the awards. Real Madrid was named the best men's team of the year, and Los Blancos coach Carlo Ancelotti received the title of best coach. Lamine Yamal from Barcelona was recognised as the best young player.
These successes reflect the achievements of Spanish teams in recent months. The Spanish men's national team won the European Championship, becoming the sole record holder with four titles. Their younger counterparts also succeeded in the Under-19 European Championships. The Spanish women's national team won the World Cup, and the Under-19 and Under-17 teams claimed victory in their respective European Championships.
"Unstoppable" - comments after the Ballon d'Or ceremony
Spanish football is unstoppable,” commented Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. As noted by the Polish Press Agency, these successes confirm not only the football talent of the Spaniards but also the high calibre of their coaches.
Spanish coaches lead top European clubs. In the English Premier League, Josep Guardiola manages Manchester City, Mikel Arteta Arsenal London, and Unai Emery Aston Villa. In the German league, Xabi Alonso led Bayer Leverkusen to a historic championship and German Cup victory. Luis Enrique is at the helm of Paris Saint-Germain, the current national champion in France.
The Spanish media described the Paris gala as a "great celebration of Spanish football." Everything suggests that Spain's dominance in football will endure for a long time.
