Police suspect that the creature ended up in the package during its packing in China.

Shein stated that they promptly launched an internal investigation. Their on-site teams reviewed the shipment packing procedures and inspected similar items stored in their warehouse. They also confirmed that all standard operating procedures were adhered to.

The victim's neighbour reported the incident to the police, and the 25-year-old woman was taken to the University Hospital in Marburg. The officers secured the now-dead scorpion and handed it to doctors to tailor appropriate therapy for the patient. The medical report noted the appearance of swelling at the sting site.

Herpetology expert Chris Newman from the National Centre for Reptile Welfare identified the scorpion species as Olivierus martensii, which typically occurs in China and Manchuria. According to him, although this scorpion's sting should not threaten the health of adults, children and the elderly may be more susceptible to its effects.

The Chinese company expressed concern over the incident highlighted in media reports and contacted the customer to assist. They stressed that her well-being is their primary concern and extended wishes for a swift recovery in their statement.
