Rising living costs are forcing us to look for savings in their daily expenses. One simple way to reduce water bills is to use the toilet cistern trick. This can significantly lower water usage, bringing real savings.

This is how you save on water. Learn the simple trick

This year, electricity and gas prices have gone up. Everyone is looking for ways to save a bit. Many simple methods reduce bills, for example, for water. One example is a simple trick that uses... an empty water bottle.

How to do it: Turn off the water valve and empty the toilet cistern. Then, fill an empty plastic bottle with water. Lift the cistern cover and put the filled bottle inside, on the opposite side of the float valve. Close the cover, turn the water back on, and wait for the cistern to fill. The bottle takes up a lot of space, causing the cistern to use less water with each flush, and you’ll save significantly on your bills.

Use instead of a plunger

This is not the only possible use for a plastic bottle in the bathroom. It can also help unclog the toilet when the home lacks specialised tools like a rubber plunger or a "snake." Cut the bottom of the bottle and insert it into the toilet with the cut side down, keeping the cap on. Moving the bottle up and down should unclog the drain quickly.
