Brew barista-style coffee at home with just a jar

Do you feel like you need an expensive espresso machine or have to visit a café to enjoy a delicious coffee with foam? Not necessarily. You just need to know a simple method using a jar. I was pleasantly surprised at how easily you can prepare such a coffee at home.

Many of us prefer coffee with milk as it has a milder taste. If you can create a delightful foam from the milk, the drink tastes exquisite.

Coffee with foam? You don't need an espresso machine

Not every espresso machine has the option to make coffee with milk foam. Simple capsule devices often lack this feature. However, you can make your favourite drink another way, and it will definitely be more economical. All you need is a regular jar. I discovered this method in a video on a social media platform.

How to prepare coffee with a jar?

  1. Put instant coffee into a jar. The amount depends on how strong you like your coffee, but it's typically about two teaspoons per serving. Add sugar if desired.
  2. Add some cool, boiled water. Seal the jar and shake it vigorously. This will create coffee foam. The coffee foams up quickly.
  3. Meanwhile, heat up the milk.
  4. Prepare your favourite glasses or cups. Pour in the hot milk, then add the whipped coffee foam. Your delicious drink is ready.

Why it's worth drinking coffee with milk

Research by Danish scientists has shown that coffee with milk might be more beneficial than black coffee. The proteins in milk and the antioxidants from coffee together double the anti-inflammatory properties in immune cells. To study the anti-inflammatory effects of the combination of polyphenols and proteins, the scientists used a model of artificial inflammation in immune cell cultures. It can be assumed that this combination will have equally beneficial effects on the human body.

Watch out for these coffee additives

Coffee with milk can be a good choice, but be cautious of certain additives:

  • sweet syrups and excess sugar,
  • powdered milk,
  • liquid or whipped cream,
  • ready-made mixes with high levels of artificial ingredients.

These not only add calories but can also comprise a considerable amount of fats and sugars that may negatively affect your health. Instead, you might consider reaching for spices like cinnamon, ginger, or cardamom, which offer proven health benefits.
