Ryanair turbulence: Passengers stranded after flight chaos
Passengers on a Ryanair flight from Santiago de Compostela to Palma de Mallorca endured a true ordeal when their plane couldn't land due to strong winds. The flight was diverted to Valencia, where nearly half the passengers chose to disembark, too shaken to continue their journey.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, 7th December. After landing in Valencia, instead of resuming the flight to Palma de Mallorca, the plane unexpectedly returned to Santiago.
Ryanair showed no concern for travellers' plight
Passengers who chose to disembark were left at the mercy of fate in Valencia - frustrated and stranded. Numerous complaints about the lack of communication and support from Ryanair quickly emerged.
- We didn't receive dinner, breakfast, or any information - said Nekane Otero in an interview with the "Majorca Daily Bulletin". She only reached Palma de Mallorca on Monday, two days after the scheduled arrival date.
- Ryanair didn't help us at all. It was terrible - said another passenger, Antonio Comas.
Travellers faced costly returns
Faced with limited and expensive flight connections, many passengers had to bear additional and unexpected costs. Some paid up to £260 more for new flights.
Others rented cars to drive to Madrid and from there sought connections. Direct flights were fully booked, and alternative routes involved long layovers.
Affected passengers have already filed claims for compensation against Ryanair, criticising the airline for how it handled the situation and the lack of any assistance.
