Maria Zakharova brought up the military exercises, known as Nordic Response, which will be taking place in a few weeks in the northern parts of Sweden, Norway, and Finland. She mentioned that over 20,000 soldiers from a variety of military forces, representing 14 different nations, will participate, and Russia will not leave this unaddressed.

Russia will discover a means of countering threats to its national security, connected with the heightened military presence of NATO near its borders — she stated at the briefing in relation to the forthcoming Nordic Response military exercises held under the umbrella of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Zakharova proclaimed that she will employ suitable defensive measures to secure the nation. The diplomat included that these manoeuvres are a "current wave of militaristic actions", which will result in an "escalation of tensions in the Euro-centric region".

About the manoeuvres in Scandinavia

The Nordic Response military exercises will be led by NATO. These manoeuvres are scheduled for the first half of March. Participants will include representatives from the army, air force, and navy. Various equipment including submarines, frigates, corvettes, aircraft carriers, and landing units will be seen at sea.

Fighter jets, transport aircraft, cooperative helicopters, and sea surveillance machines will be in the air. Tanks and artillery systems will also be present on land as part of these manoeuvres. These exercises are among the largest undertaken by NATO in several decades.

NATO's ability to rapidly deploy forces from North America and other parts of the alliance, demonstrating a fortified defence of Europe, will be shown in Steadfast Defender 2024 — detailed in the statement. The exercises will be conducted according to carefully prepared regional plans.
