According to the North Korean news agency KCNA, on Saturday, Kim Jong Un called for enhanced preparations for war - reports PAP. This came after the conclusion of the annual military exercises performed by the United States and South Korea, aimed at bolstering their defensive capabilities against North Korea's nuclear threat.
Witnessing air force drills on Friday, Kim emphasized the need to boost "realistic" preparation for a potential conflict. He believes that only training that mirrors actual combat conditions can adequately prepare troops for their roles in wartime. Kim also voiced his contentment with the current level of training and combat readiness of his forces.
"Washington and Seoul's exercises are a provocation"
In immediate response to the conclusion of the South Korean and US forces' annual drills, as well as exercises by other allied countries this week, North Korea began conducting its own military exercises. Pyongyang views these exercises as provocations and preludes to an invasion of its territory.
During the 10-day 'Freedom Shield' drills, which wrapped up on Thursday, the allies carried out 48 field exercises. This marks a twofold increase from the previous year.
