In many homes, a thorough spring cleaning is a ritual, and an essential part of it is washing the windows. If you want your window frames to look new, consider using this homemade solution. We guarantee you won't regret this decision.

We tend to clean the window glass quite frequently. Unfortunately, we often neglect a crucial component—the window frames. This is where most of the grime, dust, and mould accumulates. This homemade solution is for you if you aim to have genuinely clean windows protected against mould. With it, your window frames will be bright white and shiny.

Homemade elixir for cleaning window frames

The ingredients needed for the window frame cleaning solution are likely already in your home. You’ll need spirit vinegar, dishwashing liquid, and lemon juice (or citric acid).

In a large bowl, pour 250ml of water, 80ml of vinegar, two tablespoons of lemon juice/citric acid, and a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid. Thoroughly mix all the ingredients and transfer them to a spray bottle. Then, generously spray the frames and leave them for about 10 minutes. After this time, wipe the frames with a damp, soft cloth, such as microfiber.

Effectiveness of homemade solutions

Both vinegar and lemon juice are excellent at dissolving dirt, and they also whiten the surface and eliminate the yellow tint from the frames, which can appear due to smoking cigarettes in a particular room.

This yellowing effect is the result of rising tobacco smoke. If you smoke at home or live with someone who does and wants to remove yellow stains from the walls, you can treat them with the same solution. However, it’s important to note that it will only be effective on white walls. Vinegar may dissolve the colour in painted walls, leaving unsightly streaks.
