Revolutionize your kettle cleaning with these unusual household hacks
It seems like all of us have had this problem. I open the kettle, and a layer of limescale greets my eyes. It looks very unsightly. I've always coped using vinegar and water. This time, I decided to use a popular vegetable. I throw its peels into the kettle and boil them.

The kettle is perhaps the most important kitchen appliance. At least that's the case in my home because it's probably the only device that works almost non-stop, especially during this period. If you're a fan of teas and coffee, then you'll understand right away. It doesn't surprise me that after a short while, limescale appears inside. Although annoying, there's an easy way to eliminate this problem. Home remedies are the best, and I will tell you about ones you've definitely not heard of.
Why is cleaning the limescale so important? If we neglect it, the kettle can quickly break down. Limescale can block the heating element in the device. Calcium turns into calcium carbonate when water is boiled, which makes the water hard. This means that more and more limescale accumulates in the kettle.
How to clean the kettle from limescale? Try these methods
Removing limescale with natural methods is very effective and much safer for the person doing it. There's no need to inhale any chemicals. Lemon acid and vinegar are most commonly used. I also use two other methods. Here they are:
- I pour about 300ml of Coca-Cola into the kettle and add a bit of water, immediately boiling it in the device; I leave the drink in the kettle for 30 minutes, then pour it out and rinse with water,
- I throw potato peels into the device and pour water over them, which I then boil; I repeat the process several times with fresh peels, ensuring I've completely removed the limescale.
