Paving stones are incredibly popular. They're affordable, easy to install, and extremely elegant. They decorate roads, sidewalks, and home driveways. However, they're not without their problems. Over time, moss or weeds may grow on them, but the worst issue is oil stains from engine oil. How can you remove these stains? Discover the simplest method below.
How to remove oil from paving stones?
A clean and well-maintained driveway is the calling card of every home. Unfortunately, oil stains can appear, spoiling the look. These must be removed as quickly as possible, as the oil penetrates deep into the stone, creating a permanent discolouration.
How do you tackle these oil stains? There are several approaches. You can opt for professional paving stone cleaning products, which are available in most garden stores. However, this solution can be quite expensive. If you're looking to save money, you may already have useful products at home.
Baking soda, borax, vinegar, or grey soap are readily available in every store. Each can effectively clean paving stones. For oil stains, grey soap or potash soap are particularly effective. A bar of such soap costs around £1. Rub it into the stain and leave it for about an hour. Afterwards, pour water over the stone and scrub it with a hard brush, and the stain will vanish.
Potash soap as a fabric stain remover
Potash soap is also a fantastic fabric stain remover. It can be used to make a homemade degreaser for various surfaces. Just grate the soap and dissolve it in warm water. Pour the solution into a spray bottle and dilute with more water. A spray made from potash soap is suitable for cleaning induction hobs, ovens, countertops, or grills.
Want to restore your paving stone to its former glory? Clean it with a mixture of water, dishwashing liquid, and vinegar. To prepare this, boil about 2 litres of water. Then add roughly 50 millilitres of dishwashing liquid and 2 litres of vinegar. Mix all the ingredients together and pour the solution over the paving stones. Scrub them with a brush with hard bristles and rinse with water. The stones will become clean, shiny, and glossy.
