Although ants can benefit the environment, their presence in the house is still unpleasant. How can you effectively and humanely rid your apartment of them? We've got a solution.

Seeing ants in the garden is expected, but it's a different story when these tiny insects start showing up in our homes. Despite their small size, they can climb to higher parts of a building and enter apartments on upper floors, squeezing through any small cracks.

The scent of food primarily attracts ants. To deter them, it's crucial to thoroughly clean up spills from sweet beverages, regularly take the rubbish out, and vacuum crumbs and leftover food.

It's important to remember, however, that these small creatures play a crucial role in the ecosystem, transporting seeds, aerating the soil, and helping to control other pests. So, how do we keep them out of our kitchens, bathrooms, or children's rooms? Here's one of the best methods.

How to get rid of them from your appartment?

Upon spotting ants in your apartment, it might be tempting to use chemical agents immediately. However, these can pose risks not just to the ants but also to household members, including children, dogs, and cats. Thus, it's better to opt for ecological and home remedies that focus on eradicating already present ants and preventing their entry.

Taking advantage of ants' sensitivity to certain scents is a useful strategy. These insects dislike aromas like coffee, cinnamon, cloves, citrus, and rosewood.

If ant activity is noticeable near entrance doors or patios, scattering these areas with aromatic spices or dried coffee grounds can effectively discourage them and encourage them to find a new location.

Secure the door and window frames

Another helpful tactic involves using a special spray made from a mix of water and a selected essential oil, such as citrus or rosewood. This mixture should be sprayed on the frames of windows and doors. Alternatively, applying the chosen oil to cotton swabs and thoroughly working it into the frames is also effective. This should be done roughly once a week, particularly during the spring and summer months.

The method involving oil and cotton swabs also has a bonus: when the windows are open and the breeze comes in, it spreads a beautiful fragrance throughout the house, enhancing the ambience.
