An orchid, by any name, is the same delightful plant. It usually boasts creamy or pink flowers that beautifully augment room interiors, invariably eliciting admiration. Despite its popularity, not all owners are versed in caring for it. Regular watering, importantly, is just not enough. Introducing inexpensive fertilizers can prompt your orchid to dazzle you with beautiful flowers.

How should you water orchids?

First and foremost, when purchasing an orchid, you must consider several issues. Firstly, always select one with lots of healthy buds. Secondly, ensure they are not wilting or drying up, as this indicates that the plant has a limited lifespan and, despite your best efforts, may not flower.

Finally, the leaves of the orchid should be a healthy green. Any discoloration could be a sign that the plant is in poor health or on the verge of illness.

Occasionally, you may encounter a situation where the orchid, despite regular watering, doesn't look hearty and robust. In such instances, a homemade fertilizer featuring low-alcohol, light beer could be a lifeline. Employing this can rejuvenate your orchid, with new buds appearing swiftly and blooming in abundance.

Beer could be the elixir your orchid needs

The beverage mustn't be flavored when watering an orchid with beer, as it could contain harmful dyes and sweeteners. Also, it must be allowed to stand for a few hours to degas fully. Around 48 grams of beer should then be mixed with a glass of water to create a 'beer fertilizer' and used to water the orchid. This solution is most effective when used once a month, as overuse could harm the orchid, causing a counterproductive effect.
