Japan is renowned for its very high sanitary standards, which makes this unusual finding even more shocking and has dramatically stirred public opinion. Pasco Shikishima produces the bread containing the rat.

This brand has an established reputation, having been on the market since 1920. It is one of the Land of the Rising Sun's most well-known and trusted bread suppliers.

The contaminated loaves were produced in a factory in Akishima, Tokyo Prefecture. The company has already issued an official statement in which it apologizes to consumers for this incident and asks for the bread with expiry dates between May 7 and May 11 to be returned.

Remains of the rodent found in the bread: "We would like to deeply apologize"

Pasco Shikishima is investigating how the rodent's remains ended up in its products.

We would like to deeply apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers, business partners, and other parties - it's written in the statement.

As reported by the Japan Times, the bread, which contained fragments of the rodent's body, is popular among Japanese. Importantly, it is not sold outside of Japan.
