DHL plane crash in Vilnius raises hybrid attack concerns
The crash of the DHL cargo plane, which went down in Vilnius on Monday morning, may not have been an accident but a hybrid attack, stated German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
The German Foreign Minister believes that the DHL cargo plane's crash in Vilnius on Monday morning may not have been an accident. Annalena Baerbock expressed this opinion during a meeting of G7 foreign ministers in Italy.
“We must ask ourselves the serious question of whether it was an accident or a hybrid attack, as happened last week,” she emphasised. Baerbock referred to cutting underwater telecommunication cables in the Baltic Sea, which Berlin deemed as sabotage.
The plane, which flew from Leipzig and was chartered by DHL, crashed near a residential building in Vilnius. One of the four people on board was killed in the crash, and the others were injured.
Growing threat
In recent months, the number of incidents related to Russian hybrid attacks in Europe has increased. German security services have warned of "unconventional incendiary devices" being sent by unknown individuals through transport companies such as DHL. As a result, German counterintelligence and police have issued warnings to the aviation and logistics sectors.
The DHL plane crash in Vilnius is part of a broader context of the growing threat of hybrid attacks in Europe. German authorities are investigating whether this incident is part of a larger strategy to destabilise the region.
