The following days in the UK were not the calmest. As reported by the local media on Monday evening, May 6, the British Ministry of Defence was supposed to have fallen victim to two or even three hacker attacks. According to Sky News, it's possible that one of them was successful.
The hackers aimed to steal information about the salaries of the highest generals and ministry employees. At the same time, they attempted to steal data of all the Ministry of Defence personnel in England, including the data of local veterans. As a result, their names and bank information were supposed to be exposed.
British media indicate that China was behind the attack
Although the government does not officially name any country guilty, Sky News claims it was China. Information from these journalists indicates that there is a high possibility of an official accusation of China attempting to hack into the ministry in the coming days.
Currently, the government appeals for calm among those involved in the matter. At the same time, it assures full support, including help securing their data. According to information provided by the British government, a two-day analysis and attempts to stop the attacks likely proved successful. This means that the data of the Ministry of Defence employees are safe.
The attack by Chinese hackers may respond to a significant cooling of relations between the two countries. Notably, it occurred a few months after the British government accused China of other cyber-attacks. At the same time, England has long been pointed out as one of the main targets of hybrid attacks by countries supporting Russia.
