Porsche recalls models over wheel safety concern in US market
Porsche has announced a service campaign due to damages to the central wheel nut, potentially leading to the wheel coming off while driving. It has been discovered that a particular batch of nuts is defective, with incidents of damage reported last summer.
The American agency, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, states that the issue concerns 1,851 vehicles. This includes the models 911, 718 Spyder RS, and 718 Cayman GT4 RS—all from the year 2024. Naturally, this applies to cars with a single, large nut for fastening their wheels, similar to racing cars.
At present, the campaign is only relevant to vehicles sold in the US market. However, if your car has been recently imported from the United States, it is advisable to check whether it might be affected.
Porsche has reported isolated incidents of nut cracking in September and October this year. The company is actively investigating the issue. It also advises owners of cars with this wheel fastening system to refrain from using their vehicle until the issue is resolved.
