Oscar nominations unveiled amid Los Angeles fire aftermath
The most important awards in the film industry will be presented in Los Angeles for the 97th time. The Academy has announced the final list of Oscar nominations.
The broadcast revealing the creators, actresses, actors, and films in contention for an Oscar was initially scheduled for 15 January. However, due to the widespread fires in Los Angeles, the deadline for Academy members to cast their votes and the date the world would learn the voting results were postponed.
Hundreds of people lost their homes and workplaces during the Californian fires. Entire communities were displaced, and residents evacuated to save their lives. This tragedy in Los Angeles is expected to be a significant topic during the Oscar ceremony, which will take place on the night of March 3rd, Greenwich Time. Actress Rachel Sennott ("Idol") and comedian Bowen Yang ("SNL") announced the nominations.
