Meta, the owner of Facebook, introduced a new invention to the world – Orion Glasses. This augmented reality prototype aims to revolutionise the way we use AR technology. Although this technology is still in development, it has generated tremendous interest thanks to its innovative features, which promise to bring us closer to a future we could only dream of until now. What capabilities do Orion Glasses offer, and what does this mean for users?
Orion Glasses - the new product from Meta
Orion Glasses are Meta's latest creation, designed to merge reality with the virtual world using augmented reality (AR). Unveiled at the annual Connect conference, Orion is more than just a prototype—it's a herald of a revolution in how we perceive technology. As Mark Zuckerberg announced, these glasses offer something akin to a "time machine," allowing users to interact with holograms in the real world.
Made from a lightweight magnesium alloy, Orion Glasses stand out with their modern design and advanced technology. Meta emphasises gesture control, voice commands, and neural wrist interfaces to ensure maximum user comfort. Work is ongoing to improve their appearance and reduce production costs, with plans to introduce this innovative product to the consumer market in 2027.
Will predicting the future be easier?
With the introduction of Orion Glasses, Meta is taking a step further in developing technology that could revolutionise the way we use augmented reality. Although the glasses do not literally offer future predictions, their technological capabilities give a glimpse of how AR development might impact daily life. Displaying notifications, messages, or visualising information directly on the lenses gives the impression that the user can access information in advance.
Zuckerberg compared these glasses to a "time machine," suggesting that this technology will allow for quick access to data and increase the efficiency of interaction with the digital world. Meta is focusing on continuously enhancing Orion's capabilities, including the addition of speech recognition, real-time translations, and expanded interaction possibilities, which could indeed make predicting future events more achievable.
