Revealed to Reuters by "two individuals in the know," this innovative product will be introduced just before the annual Google I/O conference kicks off. This year's conference, which is expected to showcase new AI models like Gemini and Gemma, is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14th.

Prior reports from Bloomberg and The Information suggest that OpenAI's search engine will incorporate elements of the ChatGPT chatbot, introducing features such as citation and collaboration with Bing.

Google braces for competition

In anticipation of the stiff competition, Google is fortifying its position. Prabhakar Raghavan, the head of Google's search division, has cautioned his team about the challenging times ahead. He further emphasized that despite rolling out novel innovations, people regard Google as a reliable information source, an increasingly pertinent aspect of AI.

The Verge has highlighted OpenAI's attempts to draw Google personnel to its search engine project, underscoring the escalating rivalry in the tech sector.

Intensifying AI market contest

OpenAI isn't the only entity aspiring to revolutionize search engine technology. Startup Perplexity, initiated by an ex-OpenAI researcher, boasted ten million active users monthly in January, reflecting the burgeoning interest in its AI-informed search engine.

These developments occur as Google faces an ongoing antitrust lawsuit with the DOJ over its search engine market dominance. OpenAI's strides could form a considerable hurdle for Google, particularly on the eve of their I/O event. Nevertheless, the growing competition is poised to benefit consumers.
