Trump vows largest deportation move, targets 11 million migrants
President Trump intends to keep his promise of mass deportation of illegal migrants. As he stated in an interview with NBC, it concerns over 11 million people.
In his latest interview with NBC, Donald Trump reiterated that the priority during the initial weeks of his presidency will be "the largest deportation action in the nation's history." He mentioned that his team is already in discussions with private-sector companies regarding preparations for the deportation of over 11 million illegal immigrants. When asked about the cost of this operation, Trump stated that the price does not matter.
"We have no choice. These people have been causing harm; drug lords have been destroying countries. Now they will have to return to those countries because they can't stay here," said Trump, as quoted by NBC.
CNN points out that one of the key roles related to migration issues could be taken by the former head of the immigration department, Tom Homan. In a recent interview with CBS, Homan assured that the plans include "targeted arrests."
"We will know whom we are arresting, where we are most likely to find them, based on ongoing investigations,"
announced Homan.
"Shock" in US immigration policy
CNN emphasises that the deportations will be handled by the Department of Homeland Security. "They are already preparing for a shock in immigration policy," writes the portal.
The average cost of merely transporting one migrant to their country of origin is nearly £1,600. In addition, there are costs associated with locating and detaining, as well as verifying such a person. The logistics cost for just one person is approximately £8,800.
