The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office publicised the case. Officials detailed how the resident, who had experienced theft from her mailbox multiple times in Los Alamos, finally found a solution.
The case concluded with her purchasing an Apple AirTag locator for £24. This gadget has gained widespread popularity since its market release in 2021.
The device's advantages were demonstrated once again in recent days when another postal package addressed to the Californian resident disappeared from her mailbox. However, this time, it was a package she had sent to herself, with a locator placed inside.
The police quickly traced the stolen items to an apartment building in Santa Maria, about 25 kilometres from the post office, and arrested the two suspects. The truth was revealed.
A 27-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man stole the package with the locator. Numerous stolen items from various mailboxes were discovered in their apartment. Items from packages that the resourceful Californian resident had been waiting for previously without success were also recovered.
The sheriff's department commended the victim for contacting the authorities and having the ingenuity to catch the criminals. Authorities also highlighted that the method chosen by the American was more sensible than attempting a direct confrontation with the thieves.
