New MG HS debuts at Goodwood: Larger, hybrid option available
HS is a larger MG SUV that is highly popular in Western European countries. It has just received a new generation, which debuted during the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The second generation of the HS is a stylistic evolution of its predecessor and is appealing. It's not a car that will blow you away with its looks, but it is attractive and generally will appeal to anyone. Moreover, from now on, it will be available not only with a typical combustion engine.
A plug-in hybrid will also be available. It will be based on a 1.5L petrol unit with 189 hp and an electric motor producing 209 hp. This, in combination with a 24.7 kWh battery, is supposed to allow for driving 120 kilometres on electric power alone.
Besides that, the classic, turbocharged 1.5L petrol engine generating 169 hp and 275 Nm of maximum torque will still be available, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed automatic.
The new version of the HS measures 467 cm in length, 188 cm in width, and has a 277 cm wheelbase. The boot can hold 507 litres. It's a sizeable vehicle, slightly larger than, for example, the Toyota RAV4. So there won't be a lack of space, and the equipment shouldn't disappoint either.
On board, we will find, among other things, an 8-speaker audio system, 360-degree cameras, and a highway driving assistant. More details should be available soon, including the full specifications and prices.
