Mystery shrouds the death of the Russian regiment deputy commander
Russian media report the death of Yevgeny Tikhanovich, the deputy commander of the 22nd Motorized Rifle Regiment. The 41-year-old soldier, who was awarded the medal "For the Return of Crimea," died in the Kursk region.

The circumstances of Tikhanovich's death are not precisely known. The Ukrainian agency Unian reports that he was "eliminated."
Russian social media, however, emphasise that the deceased was awarded the medal "For the Return of Crimea." The Russian Ministry of Defence introduced this decoration in March 2014.

The prototype of this medal, with which soldiers involved in the Crimean campaign were honoured a decade ago, was the Soviet medal "For the Liberation of Crimea." It was created in 1944 when this area was part of the Soviet Union.
Tikhanovich will be buried with military honours in the village of Sizaya. Russian media describe him as a "hero" who "gave his life in defence of the residents of the Kursk region".
In 2024, Russia lost over 434,000 soldiers in Ukraine. According to Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 140,000 people lost their lives on the front line.
This is more than in the first two years of the invasion combined. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the aggressor has lost approximately 818,740 soldiers.
