Trump's stargate: $500bn for superintelligent America
President Donald Trump, along with the heads of Japan's Softbank, Oracle Corporation, and OpenAI, announced the Stargate project at the White House. These giants are set to invest up to $500 billion in building data centres and the infrastructure necessary for the development of artificial intelligence, with the project's ultimate aim being the creation of superintelligence.
During his speech at the White House, Trump mentioned that the company leaders have decided to establish a joint venture, which will invest at least $100 billion, and potentially up to $500 billion over four years, in building data centres in America and will contribute to the creation of 100,000 jobs.
This monumental undertaking is a profound statement of confidence in America's potential under its new president, said Trump.
The head of OpenAI, Sam Altman, stated that the project's goal is to create AGI (artificial general intelligence) superintelligence, describing it as "the most important project of this era".
The president of Softbank, Masayoshi Son, suggested that it is a sign of the "golden age of America" heralded by Trump. Larry Ellison, the Oracle president and a Trump supporter, announced that the project will, among other things, contribute to curing cancer and other diseases and facilitate the rapid development of vaccines.
As reported by the "Wall Street Journal", Stargate includes a range of previously announced projects. The first 10 data centres will be built in Texas and are already under construction.
