Germany. Alarming reports from Munich
- Our office, located right next to the Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism in the centre of Munich, is currently surrounded by a police cordon. Our employees are in lockdown. At exactly 08:10 GMT, a loud bang suddenly rang out. At least a dozen shots were heard. At this moment, we know nothing more. A large contingent of emergency services is currently deployed on the streets," says Benedikt Franke, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive of the Munich Security Conference (MSC), to "Bild".
Journalist Ronen Steinke from "Sueddeutsche Zeitung" published a recording from the scene. Numerous loud gunshots can be heard on the video.
"Bild" also highlighted that the incident coincides with the anniversary of the 1972 Munich massacre, when 11 members of the Israeli team and one German police officer were killed by Palestinian terrorists during the Olympic Games.
