Despite being ranked among the least competitive in Europe, the Montenegrin football league sparks intense passion among certain followers. Late April was especially challenging for Buducnost Podgorica supporters. The team's performances were underwhelming, securing just a single point over two matches, significantly dampening their championship aspirations.
Violence erupted after a 2:2 draw in the game between Buducnost Podgorica and Sutjeska Nikšić, with fans storming the changing rooms. The altercation involved players and a group of irate fans.
However, the post-match chaos didn't end there. Coach Ivan Brnović shared with the media that he had been threatened with his daughter's life. Initially, the anonymous message left the Buducnost coach petrified.
Taking a strong stand against the vile threat, Brnović approached the police, determined to locate the individual demanding €20,000 for his daughter's safety.
The Montenegro police quickly tracked down the culprit, a self-proclaimed Buducnost supporter. He claimed the message was intended as a distasteful prank, denying any real malicious intent.
After these unsettling events, Buducnost Podgorica found a way to shine on the field again, securing a 4:0 victory against Arsenal Tivat on Saturday. Yet, the relationship between coach Ivan Brnović and the club's fans remains strained. Given recent incidents, he has decided to call off a previously arranged meeting with them.
