The 40-year-old tourist found herself in intensive care after a venomous viper attack, as reported by the BBC. She travelled to Cyprus to celebrate her 40th birthday, but the snake unexpectedly interrupted her meditation.
She detailed to the BBC how a 5-foot-long viper bit her just above her left ankle as she was stepping onto the meditation platform at her hotel. "It quickly, before I had time to react, bit me just above my left ankle," she explained. In panic, she shook the snake off and screamed for help. "My leg was burning and throbbing, the pain was instantaneous," she added. Following the incident, she was transported to the hospital.
The victim now uses a wheelchair, and the hotel has taken preventive measures
After spending five days in the hospital, the British woman was released but now relies on a wheelchair for mobility. Returning to the hotel with her prescribed medication, she rented a room specially adapted for individuals with disabilities, with the cost of her stay now increasing to 310 euros per night.
Following the incident, the hotel took action by clearing some of the surrounding vegetation from the meditation platform and enlisting the help of pest control specialists. "The activities that take place on the platform have now been moved to the dance studio", the woman stated. "However, hotel guests are continuing to use the platform and explore the area around."
The travel agency through which the 40-year-old booked her trip has been in constant touch, offering full support as she awaits further communication from her insurance company.
