Margot Robbie's rolls the dice on "Monopoly" movie adaptation

There's no shortage of news about Margot Robbie's latest projects, one of the most popular actresses of the recent season. The success of "Barbie" by Greta Gerwig, where the Australian played the lead role and produced the film, has catapulted her to the top of Hollywood. This time, the star is reportedly involved in a project focused on another pop culture phenomenon: the adaptation of a... board game.

At this point, Robbie’s career seems to follow phenomena that have also been successful in areas other than cinema. "Barbie" is, of course, the best example of this. The star, along with the director and screenwriters (Gerwig wrote the screenplay with her professional and life partner Noah Baumbach), achieved something that seemed impossible – they brought to life on screen what would seem the most empty and superficial character, turning those limitations into her biggest asset. The artistic success additionally brought huge financial gains, estimated at just under £1.2 billion. Robbie is among the top actors with the highest earnings, thanks to this project.

Not long ago, we reported that the titular character of “I, Tonya” by Craig Gillespie was eyeing an adaptation of the cult video game "The Sims" handled by Electronic Arts. One of the world's most popular "life simulators" appears to carry significant narrative potential. At this point, however, it is unknown what the screenplay by Kate Harron (director of several episodes of "Sex Education", "Loki" or “The Last of Us”) and Briony Redman (working on the upcoming "Doctor Who") would be about. Robbie's newest project is also shrouded in mystery.

A film adaptation of the board game "Monopoly" is in the works. What do we know so far?

Deadline reported, among other things, that Robbie's production company has taken on the task of bringing the iconic board game to the big screen. LuckyChap Entertainment, founded 10 years ago by the star along with her husband, Tom Ackerley, Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr, aims to focus on television productions and stories with female protagonists at their core.

So far, they have usually stuck to these principles. Besides "Barbie", the list of titles to which the company has contributed includes, among others, "Promising Young Woman" by Emerald Fennell, "Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)" by Cathy Yan, or the series "Maid" by Molly Smith Metzler. Therefore, it might be a clue as to the plot of the "Monopoly" adaptation. It's possible that Robbie will also work on it as an actress.

We already know that Hasbro, the second largest toy manufacturing company in the world (which has created classics like "Quija" and "Rummikub") and has been involved in film production with characters belonging to the company since 2007, will oversee the film. "I can't imagine a better production company [than LuckyChap Entertainment—note. Author]. They are fantastic people who approach their projects with love and sensitivity," enthused CEO Brian Goldner.
