Kobido massage: Benefits and who should avoid it

Kobido massage is often referred to as a facelift without surgery. When applied regularly, it provides numerous benefits; however, not every woman should choose it. Some skin types might not be suitable for such an intensive facial massage.

Kobido massage is an intensive treatment of the face, head, neck, and décolletage, originating from Japan. It is also known as a facelift without surgery because it is believed to stimulate the skin to produce collagen and elastin. Additionally, it helps to relax muscles and offers general relaxation.

Benefits of Kobido massage

Kobido is based on deep tissue massage, lymphatic drainage, and acupressure. When performed regularly, it contributes to smoothing out wrinkles, enhancing facial contours, reducing muscle-fascial tension, combating swelling, and even improving sleep quality.

However, it is important to note that Kobido massage is not suitable for everyone. For instance, it should be avoided in cases of acute inflammation. Moreover, it does not suit every skin type. Two exceptions were explained in a LinkedIn post by Anna Karska, owner of a chain of massage salons.

Kobido massage not for everyone

"Did you know that the intensive, lifting Kobido facial massage might not be beneficial for everyone? And I'm not just referring to obvious contraindications. I mention this because there is a craze for Kobido, and additionally, among women, there is the belief that the stronger, the more effective. However, there are occasions when intensive Kobido techniques should be replaced with other movements," the expert began.

It turns out that Kobido massage should not be used on thin and saggy skin. So, how should one proceed?

"It is advisable to focus on gentle massage techniques that stimulate circulation and enhance skin elasticity. Gentle lifting movements, kneading, and stroking, which improve blood flow, are recommended. Strong pressure and rubbing should be avoided, instead employing gentle tapping and pinching. Gentle, usually draining techniques are ideal, which will also help remove excess water and toxins," writes Karska.

The second case concerns skin with dilated blood vessels, which also requires special care.

"For vascular skin, it is important to choose massage techniques that will not irritate the skin or worsen the condition of the vessels. Gentle-draining movements towards lymph nodes will improve circulation and reduce bloating. Soothing stroking instead of strong pressure and circular movements will protect the skin from excessive warmth and irritation. Oils that strengthen vessels, such as rose or parsley oil, and additions of vitamins C and K can greatly support the skin," explains the owner of massage salons.
