Kale gains popularity: The rise of the green superfood
We should not overlook this incredibly healthy vegetable. Instead, grab a handful of its leaves, add a few year-round, inexpensive, readily available ingredients, blend, and enjoy the unique properties of the smoothie prepared this way. It’s that simple!
Kale is on the rise in popularity. Some still regard this green plant with some suspicion, even though many of us occasionally replace other ingredients with it, like spinach. Such diversification of healthy sources can benefit us greatly, especially considering the remarkable features of this still underappreciated kale.
What are the characteristics of these attractive green leaves? First and foremost, they are packed with vitamins A, C, and K and essential minerals like potassium, iron, calcium, and magnesium. They are also rich in antioxidants and high-quality plant protein. All of this makes a kale smoothie a source of antioxidants and essential vitamins that help the body function correctly and components that regulate metabolism and support intestinal health. Therefore, a kale smoothie can benefit anyone trying to shed extra pounds.
Of course, it’s not just about being healthy; it's also about being tasty. Kale on its own might be a bit too bitter for us (especially if raw and not pre-frozen); that's why adding a neutral banana, sweet kiwi, and refreshing and tangy apples to the mix is good. Below, we present an example recipe for such a smoothie. Give it a try and see those love handles disappear!
Healthy kale smoothie
Ingredients:
- 3 handfuls of kale leaves,
- 1 banana,
- 1 kiwi,
- 1 apple,
- 120 ml of coconut milk,
- 1/2 lemon.
Preparation:
- Wash the kale leaves and cut off the hard ends of the stems. Peel the banana, kiwi, and apple. Remove the apple seeds, too.
- Put all the ingredients into a blender. Add coconut milk and juice from half a lemon. Blend everything. This smoothie tastes chilled in the summer, so place it in the fridge first. Enjoy!
