European Union Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell has warned that the idea of war in Europe "is not a fantasy" and that it is necessary to prepare for it. "The war is certainly looming around us," Borrell pointed out, as the "Financial Times" quoted.

Josep Borrell, the leader of European diplomacy, indicated during a speech to foreign officials that Russia poses a threat to Europe due to hybrid attacks on European Union countries, as well as its aggression towards Ukraine - reports the "Financial Times."

However, according to Borrell, Europe must brace itself for a comprehensive conflict. "A high-intensity, conventional war in Europe is no longer a fantasy," he emphasized.

"Financial Times" noted that this was the first time the head of European diplomacy designated Russia as a danger. "FT" reveals that this declaration followed warnings from leaders who spoke about the threat of an increased number of Russian attacks beyond Ukraine.

"We need a new intergovernmental financing vehicle . . . comparable to the one that we created during the financial crisis." - the politician appealed.

Europe shifts gear to a war economy

Let's recall that the European Commission introduced the first EU strategy for the defense industry in March. The strategy addresses the challenges facing the European technological and industrial base in the armaments sector.

The Commission emphasizes the need to define the member states' collective demand for armament effectively. Furthermore, the EC aims to ensure the availability of all defense products by developing and supporting the industrial base and providing support from national and EU budgets for adapting the European defense industry to the new security context.

Furthermore, the European Commission also aims for 50 percent of the national budgets of EU countries on armament to be spent within the European Union by 2030 and 60 percent by 2035.
