Russian soldiers came up with an unusual idea. They outfitted one of their tanks with an additional "wooden armour" made from ammunition boxes. However, as seen in the next photo, this improvisation didn't protect Vladimir Putin's soldiers in their conflict with the Ukrainian army. Another tank was destroyed.

Many Russian soldiers are unprepared for the war with Ukraine. This issue stems from Russia's entire system, where many conscripts are sent to the front without adequate training or equipment. They are not ready for the kind of combat faced on the Ukrainian front.

Russian propaganda, labelling the conflict as a "special military operation" and framing it as a fight against Nazis from the start, plays a role too. This messaging may contribute to irrational actions by Russian soldiers who aren't fully informed of what awaits in Ukraine.

It's no surprise that we sometimes come across odd behaviour from Russian soldiers on the front. One documented online attempt quickly proved unsuccessful.

What the orcs didn't add to that T-72B3... It even had a mine plow, grill, additional "wooden armor" made from ammunition boxes... - noted on social media.

It's important to note that actual Russian losses might be higher, as not all destruction is caught on camera or the resulting wreckage photographed.

The most common tanks in Vladimir Putin's army

The T-72B3 tanks, produced in 2011, are the most prevalent type in the Russian military. These vehicles have a modern fire control system called Sosna-U, based on the French-developed thermal imaging cameras Catherine-FC.

According to "The Military Balance 2021" report, Russia had 1,150 units in 2021, which likely increased in 2022. As of now, a tally kept by the Oryx group notes that 342 units have been visually confirmed as lost.
