Hungarian opposition party challenges Fidesz's dominance
The Hungarian party led by Tisza Péter Magyar has gained an advantage over Fidesz in the latest survey. This is yet another study that marks the first situation like this in years.

According to a study published by the think tank Publicus Institute, support for the Tisza party reached 39%, while support for Fidesz was declared by 37%. This is the second recent survey to show such a "crossover." Fidesz has usually dominated the polls. The last time the party faced difficulties was in 2022 when it competed with the united opposition list.
Other studies indicate a lead for Fidesz, but the difference is small. Analysts note, however, that in all surveys, the number of undecided voters is significant, reaching around 30%.
Former government member vs. Orban
Péter Magyar is a former member of Fidesz who also collaborated with Viktor Orban's government. He entered independent politics in February 2024 in protest against the dismissal of President Katalin Novák and Justice Minister Judit Varga (his wife) following the revelation of the pardon of a deputy director at a children's home convicted of covering up paedophile crimes. Magyar argued that both women were scapegoats, and the government's leadership was responsible for the entire situation.
In June 2024, Magyar joined the Respect and Freedom Party (TISZA) and ran on its list for the European Parliament. The party came second (behind Fidesz) and secured 7 members in the European Parliament, including Magyar himself. The politician subsequently became the party leader.
Tisza is considered a centre-right party. At rallies, Magyar calls Orban's state a "mafia country." He promises to eradicate corruption and invest in healthcare, education, and environmental protection.
Regarding the war in Ukraine, Tisza - like Fidesz - opposes, among other things, sending weapons to the defending country.
