Dramatic situation in France. On Friday morning, an armed inmate took five hostages from the staff at the prison in Arles in the south of the country. The TF1 Info portal reports that security forces have been sent to the scene.

Security forces have been attempting to control the situation since Friday morning. Armed police officers and negotiators were immediately dispatched to the penitentiary in Arles, southern France.

The incident occurred in the prison infirmary, where the man is holding four nurses and a caregiver. His motives remain unknown.

However, it is known that the inmate is serving an eight-year prison sentence for rape. He also has mental health issues.

The inmate arrived at the Arles facility in 2023. He has been serving his sentence there since that time.

The TF1 Info portal, citing sources within the prison, reports that the situation is tense. Authorities are attempting to resolve the crisis as quickly as possible.
