Captain of the Russian army, Konstantin Nagayko, who was responsible for the tragic shelling of the Ukrainian village of Hroza in 2023, was seriously injured in an explosion in Shuya, Ivanovo Oblast. The officer sustained numerous injuries, including to his brain, and his condition is critical.

The explosion occurred on Friday, targeting 29-year-old Nagayko, who was on duty with his unit. Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) reported rumours in the Russian army regarding Nagajko's slim chances of survival.

The tragic shelling of Hroza

Nagayko participated in the invasion of Ukraine, including missile attacks on civilian and military targets. Particularly tragic was the shelling of the village of Hroza, where on 5th October 2023, 59 civilians were killed. The attack occurred during a wake after the funeral of soldier Andriy Kozyr.

Volodymyr Shudravy, director of a local municipal enterprise, emphasised in a conversation with PAP that the Russians claimed to have killed “Nazis.” Shudravy highlighted the victims, including children and the elderly, as evidence of the baselessness of these accusations.

"For six days, we have been digging graves. The day before yesterday, we had 17 funerals. Today, four. The Russians told the UN they killed Nazis here. Come, I'll show you their photos on the crosses. Look at this 'Nazi': an eight-year-old boy. And here, two women in their sixties and a 75-year-old grandfather. These are the 'Nazis' Russia found here," Shudravy reported in October 2023 in a conversation with PAP.

Nagayko, as a participant in the invasion, was responsible for attacks using ballistic missiles in the Sumy and Kharkiv Oblasts. His actions in Hroza were one of the most tragic episodes of the conflict.
