When combined with milk, these spices transform into a healthy but also very tasty drink with a delicate hint of spice. Tibetan milk, also known as golden milk or cocoa for adults, is the best ally for chilly days.
Tibetan milk - a home remedy for colds
The most crucial ingredient is turmeric, which gives the drink its characteristic golden colour. In addition to turmeric, golden milk often includes ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, cloves, and black pepper.
Curcumin, the main active ingredient in turmeric, has strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It helps strengthen the immune system, protecting the body from infections. Golden milk can alleviate inflammation in the body, which is particularly beneficial for joint diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. Curcumin can have a positive effect on brain function, improving memory and concentration. To help the body better absorb curcumin, add a bit of fat to the golden milk, such as coconut oil.
Additionally, Tibetan golden milk can help combat stomach ailments like bloating or indigestion. It's excellent for warming up on cold days, helping the body fight off colds.
Recipe for a warming spiced drink
Golden milk offers a warm, slightly spicy flavour with a hint of sweetness, which can be adjusted to your preferences. You can also add a bit of cocoa to enhance the drink's taste.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of milk or plant-based alternative
- a pinch of black pepper,
- 1 teaspoon of coconut oil,
- a pinch of ginger,
- 1/3 teaspoon of cinnamon,
- 2 teaspoons of turmeric,
- high-quality honey.
Instructions:
- Pour the milk into a saucepan.
- Add all the spices and simmer on low heat for about 8 minutes.
- Add honey to taste at the end.
If you want to preserve the nutritional properties of the honey, remember to add it to a cooled drink. It's best to add it to no more than 40 degrees Celsius milk. If you prefer hot beverages, that's fine, but remember that honey may lose some of its properties.
