Such controversial incidents, though shocking, are becoming somewhat familiar, especially in lesser-known football leagues around the globe. The Ghanaian Premier League recently became the scene of one such incident.
What exactly occurred? During the match between Heart of Lions and Bechem United in the 28th round, supporters of Bechem United attacked the coach of Heart of Lions.
In a discussion with Kessben FM following the match, Bashir Hayford shared that he was spat on by fans of the opposing team. However, the aggression didn’t stop there; they also doused him with urine.
The coach chose to respond to this hostility. In a decisive moment, he took his chair and placed it in the centre of the pitch as a form of protest.
As a result of these actions, Hayford might face disciplinary action. The Ghanaian Football Association's Disciplinary Commission has charged him with misconduct and requested an explanation for his actions by May 6.
The 66-year-old's team ended the contentious match with a 1:1 draw. Currently, they are positioned second to last in the league standings.
