On Tuesday, the head of the German Ministry of Defence is in Stockholm. He will meet with his Swedish counterpart, Pål Jonson. The ministers will sign an agreement on strengthening defence cooperation.

The German Minister of Defence expressed his concerns regarding a potential Russian attack on NATO territory. Pistorius emphasized that "this means that we must do everything to prevent Moscow from winning the war against Ukraine".

- Therefore, we will support Ukraine as long as it is necessary - he announced. - Secondly, we must have such a military starting position so that Putin does not start a war with NATO - he added.

Pistorius noted that Germany, along with its allies, "is determined to defend every inch of (NATO) territory".

- With the accession of Sweden to the Alliance, and earlier Finland, the Baltic Sea will be largely bordered by NATO countries. This significantly improves our strategic position, especially for the Baltic states, which are most vulnerable to an attack by Russia - he pointed out.

"Dagens Nyheter" recalls that from the year 2027, 4,800 soldiers of the Bundeswehr and 200 civilian employees are to be stationed in Lithuania. Thanks to Sweden's accession to NATO, the Alliance will have easier access to troop transfers to the Baltic countries in the event of an escalation of threat.
