The 34-year-old, Calvin Parris, had been evading justice since November 2020 after his involvement in cocaine trafficking was exposed. According to the tabloid "The Sun", Parris was detained by Portuguese police near Boliqueime in the Algarve region.
Parris was handed over to the National Crime Agency and escorted to Wales, where he will face trial. He has been charged and is in custody in Cardiff until the next hearing in November.
Parris was a member of an organised crime group. He allegedly purchased cocaine worth nearly £8 million using an encrypted phone. The group smuggled 101 pounds of the drug into Wales between February and June 2020. They mainly dealt with Class A drugs, including ecstasy, cocaine, heroin, LSD, and methamphetamine. Calvin Parris was recognised for his distinctive gold teeth in his upper jaw.
The National Crime Agency expressed its gratitude to the Portuguese authorities for effectively capturing the criminal.
The arrest of Calvin Parris highlights our commitment to tracing those accused of serious criminality and returning them to the UK to face charges, "The Sun" cites Neil Keeping from the Crime Agency.
Parris's arrest was part of a joint investigation by the National Crime Agency and European services. He was the last member of the crime group involved in drug trafficking.
