350 passengers travelling from Valencia to Mallorca experienced an absolute horror on Sunday evening, July 7th. The car ferry took them on a cruise. Unfortunately, the ship "Tenacia" stopped at sea shortly after midnight. The reason was a fire in the ferry's engine room. Unfortunately, the available onboard firefighting measures could not extinguish the fire. Urgent help was needed.

Spain: evacuation of ferry passengers

According to the German tabloid Bild, the passengers spent a day on board. On Monday afternoon, July 8th, the captain decided that the entire ship must be evacuated. The passengers were transferred to smaller boats that took them to two ships. Then, they went on a return voyage to Valencia.

Photos from the evacuation appeared online, showing passengers descending a ladder through a particular "tube" to board smaller rescue vessels.

Photos of the firefighting efforts were also shared. They show how a smaller unit approached the ferry and directed a strong stream of water. After some time, the situation was brought under control. The damaged ferry was towed away, and vehicles and luggage belonging to the passengers remained on its deck.

They will sail again

The evacuated passengers were provided with accommodation in a hotel for one night. On Tuesday morning, they are to depart again towards Palma de Mallorca and begin their holidays with a delay. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident in the Mediterranean Sea. It is not yet known what caused the fire on the ship "Tenacia". The circumstances of the incident are still being investigated.
