Evacuation of residents has begun in another city in the Kursk region. The head shared these details, Vladimir Zaytsev.
Until today, no evacuation had been conducted in our area. Everyone left on their own, without intervention. However, this has changed, and we are ordering everyone who remains to leave their homes - said the Russian, cited by the independent portal Meduza.
According to him, many people in the area do not want to leave. Meanwhile, in the Sumy region in Ukraine, bordering Kursk, travel restrictions have been imposed on all citizens within a 20-kilometre border zone.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine revealed that the restrictions are related to increased military activity and the "intensification of hostile sabotage and reconnaissance groups."
Residents of the Sudzha, Glushkovo, Rylsk, and Korenevo districts in the Kursk region are already being evacuated.
All of these districts border Ukraine. The Bolshevik district, unlike them, does not border Ukraine: to the west, it is in the Sudzha district, and to the south, it is in the Belov district of the Belgorod region, where evacuation has also been announced. The 2021 census shows about 11,000 people lived in the Bolshevik district.
Problems of Russians in their own country
According to an analysis by the Institute for the Study of War, Ukraine controlled at least 800 square kilometres of Russian territory in the Kursk region as of Monday.
On Monday evening, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with American senators – Republican Lindsey Graham and Democrat Richard Blumenthal. The discussion was about convincing American authorities to allow the Ukrainian army to use long-range missiles for attacks on Russia.
