The municipality is situated near protected wetland areas along the Danube and Drava rivers. Residents emphasize that especially after rain, they cannot leave their homes because the presence of insects is unbearable, local media noted.
The first results are already seen
This year, after consultations with experts, we decided on several innovative solutions and included drones for the first time,” said Vedran Kramarić, mayor of Kneževi Vinogradi. “The initial results show that we are on the right track."
Engaging drones for spraying mosquito repellents cost the municipality £1,750. So far, the method shows 100% effectiveness.
Osijek also has a problem
Drones will also be used by the authorities of Osijek and surrounding towns to combat the mosquito plague. A record £1.7 million will be allocated for this purpose.
"During the larvicidal treatments, we will significantly use drones, and this is the biggest difference compared to last year. Their undeniable advantage is the ability to be used in difficult-to-access areas," explained Dragan Vulin, deputy mayor of Osijek.
In the Osijek-Baranja County in eastern Croatia, plans are also in place to open a special Mosquito Control Centre, which will be equipped with the latest insect control technologies.
